Anterior inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery at a glance
- What it is
- This small artery arises from the inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery and runs along the front of the pancreatic head.
- Location
- The inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery arises from the superior mesenteric artery and divides into an anterior and a posterior branch. The anterior branch runs in the groove between the head of the pancreas and the duodenum and anastomoses with the anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery.
- Function
- It supplies the head of the pancreas and the adjacent duodenum.
- Body system
- Cardiovascular · single, midline structure
- FMA ID
- FMA70479 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- Together with the superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries, it forms an anastomosis between the celiac and superior mesenteric territories.
