Communicating branch of nasociliary nerve with ciliary ganglion at a glance
- Also called
- Sensory root of ciliary ganglion
- What it is
- This slender branch of the nasociliary nerve carries sensory fibres to the ciliary ganglion and is commonly called its sensory root.
- Location
- It arises from the nasociliary nerve in the posterior orbit and runs forward to join the posterior part of the ciliary ganglion.
- Function
- It carries sensory fibres from the eyeball that pass through the ganglion without synapsing and continue in the short ciliary nerves.
- Body system
- Nervous · paired (left and right)
- FMA ID
- FMA52674 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- Branch of the ophthalmic nerve (CN V1).
- Also called the sensory root of the ciliary ganglion.
