Dorsal carpal branch of radial artery at a glance
- What it is
- This is a branch of the radial artery that forms the dorsal carpal arch.
- Location
- It arises from the radial artery at the wrist, passes deep to the extensor tendons and anastomoses with the dorsal carpal branch of the ulnar artery and the anterior and posterior interosseous arteries to form the dorsal carpal arch.
- Function
- It supplies the wrist joint and the back of the carpus.
- Body system
- Cardiovascular · paired (left and right)
- FMA ID
- FMA22773 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- The second to fourth dorsal metacarpal arteries arise from the arch; the first comes from the radial artery.
