Taenia mesocolica at a glance
- What it is
- The taenia mesocolica is one of the three taeniae coli, the longitudinal muscle bands of the colon.
- Location
- It lies posteromedially on the ascending and descending colon. On the transverse colon it lies posteriorly, along the attachment of the transverse mesocolon.
- Function
- It provides longitudinal muscle tone and helps form the colonic haustra.
- Body system
- Digestive · single, midline structure
- FMA ID
- FMA15042 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- The three taeniae coli converge at the base of the appendix.
