Anterior cecal artery at a glance
- What it is
- The anterior cecal artery is a branch of the ileocolic artery that supplies the front of the cecum.
- Location
- It arises from the ileocolic artery (from its inferior branch), runs over the anterior surface of the cecum and gives small twigs to the cecal wall, sometimes near the ileocecal junction.
- Function
- It supplies the anterior wall of the cecum.
- Body system
- Cardiovascular · single, midline structure
- FMA ID
- FMA14816 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- The ileocolic artery also gives a posterior cecal artery, an appendicular artery and ileal branches.
