Middle frontal gyrus at a glance
- What it is
- The middle frontal gyrus is the central of the three frontal gyri on the lateral surface of the frontal lobe.
- Location
- It lies between the superior and inferior frontal sulci.
- Function
- Its dorsolateral part contributes to working memory, planning and executive function, and its posterior part contains the frontal eye field involved in voluntary gaze.
- Body system
- Nervous · paired (left and right)
- FMA ID
- FMA72656 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- Part of the prefrontal cortex.
- Supplied by the middle cerebral artery.
