Anterior leaflet of tricuspid valve at a glance
- What it is
- The anterior leaflet is the largest of the three leaflets of the tricuspid valve.
- Location
- The tricuspid valve lies between the right atrium and right ventricle. The anterior leaflet is on the front, near the infundibulum, and its chordae attach mainly to the anterior papillary muscle.
- Function
- It closes the right atrioventricular orifice during ventricular contraction so blood cannot return to the right atrium.
- Body system
- Cardiovascular · single, midline structure
- FMA ID
- FMA7238 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- The three leaflets are anterior, posterior and septal.
- The tricuspid valve is best heard at the lower left sternal border.
