Medial superior genicular artery at a glance
- What it is
- A branch of the popliteal artery that wraps around the medial side of the knee.
- Location
- It arises from the popliteal artery above the knee, passes deep to the hamstring tendons and adductor magnus, and joins the genicular anastomosis.
- Function
- It supplies the medial femoral condyle, knee joint and surrounding muscles.
- Body system
- Cardiovascular · paired (left and right)
- FMA ID
- FMA22587 (Foundational Model of Anatomy)
Key facts
- It forms part of the periarticular genicular anastomosis.
